Ethos/Worship

PURPOSE

Since the Day of Pentecost, the local church has been the primary vehicle for the transmission of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. NCC’s central, though not only, role is a three-fold ministry: the worship and praise of God, the proclamation in word and life of the Gospel of the grace of God; and the nurture, instruction, and discipling of those who have received Jesus Christ into their lives.

WORSHIP & PROCLAMATION OF THE WORD OF GOD

As a church our worship combines both traditional and contemporary elements, yet is led by the Holy Spirit. Our desire is for people to experience the reality of God’s grace through a responsive-style liturgy, music, prayer, and the preaching of God’s word. Additionally, we proclaim the work of Christ through the celebration of the Sacrament of Communion on the first Sunday of each month.

Celebrating the seasons of the church year is important to Christians of the Eastern Mediterranean. Because 75 percent of our church members are permanent residents of Nicosia, we follow the traditional church calendar:
Advent
Christmas
Covenant Sunday
Lent
Holy Week
Easter (we follow the Orthodox dates)
Ascension Sunday
Pentecost Sunday
Harvest Sunday
Suffering Church Sunday
Remembrance Sunday.
